The Mystic Bell of Drumnaquoile
Composed by the late Clement Digney
I
The golden sun had sunk down in the west
And birds had flown again back to their nest
When on that summer night there rose and fell
The sound of that sweet mystic bell.
II
For as I stood upon that hallowed ground
The mem'ries of the past came crowding round
Where St. Patrick rested from his toil
Upon yon green fair hill at Drumnaquoile
III
The shades of eve were fading back into the night
And I fancied that the bell rung through the fading light
Calling Mary's children there to pray
From homesteads and glens at break of day
IV
Then all too soon the scenes did vanish from my view
The shadows of those men of God and the bell fell silent too
Where oft' their feet trod on that fertile soil
Upon yon green fair hill at Drumnaquoile
V
When the angel calls and says, "Time is no more"
And my soul upon its way shall soar
There I shall pause - and mem'ries I'll recall
Upon yon green fair hill at Drumnaquoile
