Drumaroad BazaarMany memories will come flooding back to those who read the following poem about Drumaroad Bazaar. Many people will remember the annual Drumaroad & Clanvaraghan parish Christmas Bazaars, which were held in Drumaroad Hall from the late sixties to the late eighties. Such was the popularity of Drumaroad Bazaar that many people travelled from various neighbouring parishes, towns, and villages, in the expectation of winning a big prize on the wheel 'o' fortune, and to have an enjoyable evening's entertainment. Stories are still plentiful today about Drumaroad Bazaar, such as the many cars that used to pack the Drumaroad Hall car park, and the many children queuing the length of Drumaroad Hall waiting to visit Santa Claus. The following poem was published in 1993 in "The Initiative", which was a local community magazine published by the Seeconnell Initiative during the 1990's. Unfortunately no name was provided when the poem was originally published back in 1993. I Oh, they're coming by the mountain And they're coming thro' the glen Sure they're coming by the hundred Lads and lassies, wives and men. And some may have to hoof it Tho' some may come by car But they'ss all be sure to be there At the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR. II Oh, the bargains that you'll see there They will take your breath away! It will give you food to talk about For many a year and day. And when perhaps you're old and grey And home and friends are far You will ruminate full kindly On the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR III There'll be dolls that sleep, and dolls that talk And dolls in pink and blue They'll make you wish that you were young And had a dolly too And aeroplanes that beat the sound And cars that travel far Sure they'll be for next to nothing At the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR IV There'll be bunnies for "Wee Barney" And guns for "Cowboy Joe" There'll be bargains, bargains everywhere No matter where you go And the girls behind the counters Sure I know you'd travel far Just to have a wee crack with them At the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR V There'll be frocks for all the little ones For Mary, Anne, and Jane Such bargains and such beauties As you'll never see again. There'll be gowns for "Miss Clarissa" That would do a film star And the price will be so modest At the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR. VI There'll be far more things than I have named. Oh yes, so many more And even chairs to sit upon In case your feet get sore. There'll be household goods and ornaments That never rust nor mar. They'll be given 'oul rope' I hear At the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR VII There'll be Christmas Cards - the plainer type To send to Kate and Bill And other ones, with hearts entwined To send to dearest Lil There'll be cards to send to neighbours There'll be cards to send afar Sure you'll have such pick and choice of cards At the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR VIII There'll be sideshows, wheel 'o' fortune too Should you wish to have a go And the fortune teller from the West If the future you would know And dear old Santa will be there Thou he may not come by car But you'll surely see his long white beard At the DRUMAROAD BAZAAR |
