Clanvaraghan PoemMrs. Jean Kelly has over many years wrote fondly about various local townlands and events, and has had a number of her poems published in local newspapers, and also in various editions of "The Initiative", which was a local community magazine published by the Seeconnell Initiative during the 1990's. The following poem is one of selection of Jean Kelly's poems.
In the townland of Clanvaraghan You could spend a pleasant day. Especially in the summer When they're making the hay. Spring, Autumn, Winter too The air is clear and clean, The countryside is fresh and air With fields of verdant green. A Church, a school, a shop Crafts, cement, and steel works there, Food for the body, food for the mind And a place for prayer. From the townland of Clanvaraghan There's views to Dundrum Bay, Newcastle and Mourne Mountains Clarkhill woods along the way. The lights of Castlewellan town Sparkle beyond at night, And. St. John's lighthouse by the sea Sends forth a warning light. The people of Clanvaraghan Have time for a friendly chat, They like to pass the 'time of day' And talk of this and that. It is a very pleasant place So don't you drive just through, But stop a while and look around At the beauty of the view. |
